2005 Renault Megane Expression review from Malta
"A great car to own, Good value for money"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Noisy brakes when in reverse, but works superb; a problem with all Renaults.
General comments?
The 1.5dci 106 bhp engine is very good and reliable; smooth and strong, and gives you good fuel economy.
Gearbox and clutch are good and smooth to operate. All controls work well, and the build quality is good, but some materials used in the dash are of low quality compare with the other soft materials used in the cabin.
The Megane has a hard suspension, so the ride is firm and the payoff is minimal body roll, good road holding and strong body control. The steering lacks feel, and you need a firm hand on the steering wheel.
With the 15" wheels, the Megane rides superb with great comfort; it feels very quiet, bumps and pothols don't disturb you, but with bigger wheels the ride feels harsh on poor roads, but you will get better grip and handling.
Safety is excellent and it feels very strong.
The CD radio sound quality could be better, but it's OK.
Verdict:
For: Stylish, safe, well built, economical, reliable, comfortable drive and safe handling, superb ride comfort on the 15" wheels.
Against: Hard suspension is not normal in a french car; you need a firm grip on the steering wheel, and the 16" and 17" wheels send road noise into the cabin.
