1980 Opel Monza E review from UK and Ireland
"Absolutely Awesome and cheap for a straight six to run"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Brake pads, battery, valve lifters got noisy, water pump gave out. Needed an ATF change, but nothing major......
General comments?
Fantastic classic, it did everything and got the nickname of the 'pimpmobile'. Dark claret colour and purple velour interior. Superb. No leopardskin though.
If you want a cool laid back cruiser, GM parts, quick of the line, rear wheel drive, limited slip diff as standard, central locking and sunroof as standard, but don't mind 19mpg avg around, this is the car. Will hold 70mph all day long avg 25mpgish when I had mine, and still carry the same as a cavalier with the seats folded down. This was awesome budget jaguar/mercedes (the nearest comapsion I could think of being a straight six) type cruiser and all parts are from GM. Handling was progressive for a car of this time, well in the BMW class of handling. Only downside was the steering felt superlight and I had it swap ends on a couple of occasions on greasy roads. I think this was more down to tyres, but it is surreal when it goes...
;-) get something like goodyear gsd-3's and this should solve it.
