1996 Chevrolet Van review from North America
"Comfortable road trip ride with some flaws"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
My transmission (4L60E) needed a complete rebuild at 92,000 miles, due to a poor design which causes a bearing to fail and rub the gears out.
Oil leak at main pulley at 75,000.
Poor A/C cooling power.
General comments?
Overall it seemed to be a good purchase with relatively low miles. After looking into the G10 van's without finding many flaws I decided to make the purchase. It has many great qualities including a nice stock sound system, comfortable seats, and a nice overall ride. The engine will probably run long after the van is gone.
All though I should have read more about the transmissions in the 1996-1998 Chevrolet's as they have repeated failure. I am overall pleased with my purchase despite unplanned for transmission rebuild.
