2004 Chevrolet Impala Standard review from North America
"Impala can live up to its name!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I bought the car, I needed all the fluids replaced. I replaced the oil with synthetic, replaced the transmission oil, and all filters when I first bought it.
It's been 6 thousand miles and it started to overheat. I replaced the temperature sensor and thermostat. It worked great for 3 weeks, but overheated on me one day. Never got into the red range, but still ran very hot. When I opened up the hood, the engine did not feel hot and was not lacking in performance. My guess is either the temp sensor I installed was bad, the cluster gauges might be malfunctioning, but I doubt it, or the electric fans aren't working properly. The next day I ran the vehicle; it ran normal and has been running ever since.
All in all, I very much like the vehicle and do plan on buying another one in a few years.
