1998 Dodge Intrepid review from North America
General comments?
Well let me start off by saying my wife and I both own Intrepids; hers is a 2000 2.7 litre with 248000 km on it, and mine is a 1998 2.7 litre with 220000 km on it.
We have never had any problems or issues with the cars; both run great. I do the regular maintenance on both cars about 1000 km before the manufacturer suggests.
When you buy a car second hand, you have no idea what the person before you did, was the oil changed when it was supposed to etc... Most of the engine failures are caused by the oil not being changed at the proper time, or when low just topped up and forgotten about. Oil sludge builds up and plugs the oil passages in the 2.7 very easily, hence a blown motor. The oil has to be changed between 3000 to 4000 km; that's what I did with both our cars, and presto, no problems.
How many people who own a 2.7 that blew changed the oil when there supposed to, and use the correct oil? Out of 600,000 units made so far, around 1000 had the motors go in them. Pretty darn good odds in my opinion.
A lot better vehicle than the 2007 Ford truck my friend owns; I will get him to post the problems he had in just 7 months. And you thought a blown motor sucks at 100,000 kml try at 15,000 km.
