2004 Oldsmobile Alero GL review from North America

"This car is lousy!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I have a 2004 Olds Alero I bough in 2005. It had 13,000 miles on it when I bought it! Seemed like a nice car at the time when I test drove it! My girlfriend and I tried a Toyota while we were looking and I suggested it over the Alero, but she wanted the Alero! Anyways, last year we started having problems. The dome light had a short. The dealership fixed it for free since it didn't have 30,000 miles on it! Just after 30,000 miles I had to replace the right front hub assembly! The ABS stayed on and the mechanic said that was what was wrong! Had the rotors replaced at the same time because they were worn out! Today I had the car in for both front hub assemblies to be replaced! The right one was roaring! So I had them to replace it and they said I might as well replace both while I was at it! I saw on one forum that there was two different torque limits! One was 173 lb lbs and the other was 200 and so lbs. The lower was for replacemant hub assemblie with gray nut! They thought that the hub assembly was getting torqued too much and that was why they were wearing out again so soon! I don't know myself! Also I have problems with the trunk not latching everytime. Found out that the striker is weak because of not enough support! You can take your finger and pull it up and it will close for awhile and then you have to do it again! Why do these car makers make the automobiles so cheap? don't they know in the long run people will go elsewhere to buy better quality made cars! (if you can still find them) They are making cars lighter and cheaper, but with an higher price tag! also the dash is starting to wrinkle up! Above the glove compartment I had to glue a piece of it down where it was coming loose! Who is making these parts! Somewhere someone needed to made some changes in the way these was made! I saw on the foroms where that was a constant problem! why didn't they fix it! Maybe change adhesive? Come on, couldn't be that hard! Still the same on the last year made! What a joke! I worked at a stamping plant that made the body parts for the Ford Exployer! When they couldn't get our parts to fit on their assembly, they called us and we started investigating the problem.. we fixed it and carried on! that's the way to do it, not just keep putting out junk! If you have a problem, fix it! Why can you buy a Nissan and get 300,000 miles on it and not have major problems? Because they fix there problems... Dodge trucks with their transmition problem.. why keep making them like that! my brother buys foreign automobiles now because of more mileage with less problems.. They had a Nissan Pathfinder with 300,000+ miles on it and never had any major problems.. just regular maintenance! I bought a new 1990 Chevy S 10 and 36,000 miles I had to replace the front end because it had worn out and the mechanic siad it was because of cheaper parts. 20% of that model was built with cheaper parts! Anyways if you want to comment my e-mail address is toolsmytrade@yahoo.com.
