2004 Jeep Cherokee limited review from North America
"Great...if you know a few tricks"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I am posting this to hopefully help others out there who have had your heater stop working in your jeep. The dealer told me I needed a $1,100.00 repair to replace all the under dash parts, but I said no. After some research on my own I learned that the heater venting dogs work on vacuum. There is a vacuum line from the passenger side fire wall that crosses over the upper firewall and then connects into a vacuum hole on the motor intake. Check for it, if this line is cracked or off just reattach or replace it. Mine was cracked so I replaced a short piece of the rubber hose. Next you must disconnect the battery terminals fully, then reconnect them so the computer resets.
The heater then worked fine and I saved a bundle of money!
When I called and told the service personal, they just thanked me for telling them what I did to fix it and I got the feeling they would just rather replace everything and make the money on a big job.
General comments?
The jeep is other wise a fine vehicle and this is my 4th jeep.
I also had trouble with the front rotors warping, but jeep had a recall so I had them replaced for free.
I was told by a mechanic that it happens because the brake shoes are being made harder than the rotors so they heat up to much when you are hard on them. Before I changed mine I would hit them hard to heat them up again and while it vibrated the ride I would then hold the brakes on lightly until I found I could get rid of most of the vibration by making the rotor straighten out again!
I Hope this info was helpful.
