2000 Nissan Maxima GLE review from North America
"Fast, beautiful, but with questionable reliability"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Leaky strut had to be replaced
all ignition coils replaced.
General comments?
I am blown away by so many accounts of the 2000 Maxima ses light problems. I was outraged that I had to pay almost $800 to replace all 6 ignition coils because the code pulled up "multiple ignition failure". I used the official Nissan America website to voice my complaint which was that the coils could have been tested and only the faulty one or two replaced. A friend told me that the engine analyzer could actually pinpoint which cylinder was misfiring (my car had a slight miss every now and then) and that would indicate which coil to replace. I was contacted by a very friendly woman who handled my case. Of course, she didn't know jack crap about the inner workings of an automobile, and simply contacted the service dept. where my car was serviced. They said that the Nissan service manual requires replacement of all coils for the code that my car displayed. My real complaint is with the engineers/technicians that come up with easy cure-all fixes that the average car owner cannot afford.
