2000 Chevrolet S-10 LS review from North America
"Broken seat frame handle mounts is guaranteed to aggravate everyone that sits in the vehicle"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Both seat frame handle mounts broke. Found that when these seat handles break, it is not the actual handle that breaks, but the pot-metal knob - part of the seat frame, that snaps off flush with the edge of the seat frame, inside the cushion. You cannot simply buy new seat handles to fix this. Only way to fix it is to replace the seat frame part, which yes, is surrounded by the cushion and fabric. I know two other owners that had the same happen to their seat handles, one a 1998 S-10, the other a 1999 S-10.
Third door handle broke, which is the only item I will afford to fix. The seat frame handle mount (some people refer to them simply as the seat handles) should be recalled, as they are unrealistically cost prohibitive for most people to pay for.
General comments?
I cannot believe that Chevrolet does not consider a recall on these seat handles, and here is why: Every time I reach for a seat handle to simply adjust the comfort level of the tilt of my seat (passenger or driver), I am reminded to not buy another Chevrolet. Rather than spend advertising money on TV, radio, or other marketing - word of mouth coupled with simple usability reminders like this will eventually erode any good GM reputation that exist. I am often reminded by my ever present problem of my simple yet broken seat frame handle mounts to not buy a GM product again.
