1987 Pontiac GTA Trans Am review from North America
"Good Power, Great Handling and the Best Looking Muscle Car of the 1980's"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I bought my 1987 GTA Trans Am in New York when I flew back from a European tour of duty for the U.S. Government. Like all 1980's GTA Trans Am's they offer the rumble of the V-8 Muscle Car with the handling of a slot car. The W-S-6 suspension is legendary with Road and Track giving the GTA best handling car of it's era. Like any 15 year old car they require maintenance. I was racing a BMW- 3 and let off the gas at 128 MPH and boom the exhaust developed holes from the back pressure. I had the Pontiac dealer replace a Fuel Pump and that is extent of my mechanical bills. I don't drive the ole GTA much, but it is a joy to drive.
General comments?
Clearly the GTA Trans AM is the best styled Muscle Car of the 1980's. Collectors have taken an interest in the GTA, but beware there are many fakes. www.gtasourcepage.com is the best resource to learn about the Gran Tourismo Americana (GTA).
