2006 Citroen C6 review from Germany

"A worthy, untiring convenience for long and short distances"

General comments?

Note: I had the c 6 for a long weekend from a known european rental company (the green ones) ; my own car is the Passat estate TDI.

On occasion I had a diversion weekend which I rented the C 6 for. Starting from Berlin I did a trip to the baltic (Zinnowitz, Swinowicze, stralsund) and back.

As a family man I would not consider buying this car (of storing needs for, you know, rubber boat, lego, bikes and trikes, usual stuff). The bracket addressed seems rather to be the wealthy empty-nesters of sorts (took a taste in advance..). This car rides as elegant as the looks' promise. It is not so much a carpet nowadays as the ancestor La Deesse has been, which accommodates both novices and wifes with a known dislike for the perceived loss of control (questions, anybody?) with the traditional citroen riding peculiarities. It is a very good compromise between firmness (also variable characteristics) and carpet. Still it is superior to its mates, which is clearly shown by the fact that you're regularly waiting behind others on bad roads. The diesel engine is adequate as is in the most contemporary cars with their weight, I consider torque and power not an issue anymore at a point of 200+ diesel hp. Sound is decent, causing a smile rather than a grin. Consumption is heavy for diesel expectations; I averaged 10-11l/100 km while driving sharp in town, country and motorway. An all day 8-9 l may seem reasonable. The 6-step gearbox is a no-brainer and suits the whole very well. Driving behaviour if going fast is like making leaps in a very pleasing and quite chiefly way in town. Fun. The 2 tons net weight remains an abstract figure really. Steering lights are perfect, also it's giggling fun to take mud roads high-legged which the regular BMW can't.

The anthrazite interior is different, who is addicted to round scales on the dashboard may miss something, I didn't at all. Manufacturing quality of the interior is slightly below its price competitors, but nothing to make a buying decision out of it. Handling of the now usual compliment of buttons is - well - not really worse than in other cars alike, you get used to it. The room offering is not big time, but reasonable (back seats must be good). The upside of it: it's not too big in the exterior either, although it seems front-wise, which makes handling in narrow environments an ease.

I'm more than surprised that this car is not driven around in dozens, given the bad road surfaces in Berlin and around. I had in no point the impression of negligence and who's not in need for the tank haptics of Mercedes should definitely give it a try.
