1999 Peugeot 306 XSi review from Australia and New Zealand
"Stylish, safe, roomy 5 door hatch"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Solenoids needed to be replaced within the first week of ownership. Cost $1250. Replaced under warranty from used car dealer where car was purchased.
Muffler collapsed on a trip away. Engine power decreased and hissing noise from rear muffler.
Dashboard transmission (snow and sport) lights intermittently flash. It appears this happens when transmission selector is rapidly moved between reverse and drive.
General comments?
Very spacious car for the body size. Easy to park, handles and rides very well, and also economical.
Interior plastics rather fragile and rattle loudly at certain speeds. Car is safe and solid in accidents - a car went through a red light and hit the front right-hand corner of the car. Very little damage to the Peugeot, whereas the front of the other car was rather worse for wear.
Engine sounds quite boomy at idle. Not a quiet car at all and the transmission shifts oddly at times.
Have been happy with the service from the local Peugeot dealer.
