1971 Audi 100 LX review from North America
"Very poor unreliable machine; one decent point if any, it handled alright til the shocks collapsed"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
What didn't go wrong on these cars? I was a mechanic for Audi in Oklahoma City, and also in Tulsa. These Audis are so bad, were so unreliable I would have to first of all work these over for half a day when we recieved them off the truck from Audi. This in order to even stand the ghost of a chance to make one run well enough to be sellable to the poor customer.
Major failures with brakes, carburation, electrical, engine, transmission. Plus the parts were hard to get, as Volkswagen Of America, forced us to begin computer usage to order parts, when all computers were complete dinosaurs, as unreliable as these Audis or worse.
I could write volumes on what poor automobiles these things were.
General comments?
I had the skill to make one of these cars run acceptably, which means not getting you killed attempting to pull into traffic. It would usually keep a tune for a few months before more tweaking was required. Chances are we would see you and your Audi before that though, every 6,000 miles the front brake pads would eat through the brake rotors if not replaced.
