2001 Hyundai Elantra VE review from North America

2 TPS sensors have failed, 1 replaced on warranty.

1 crankshaft sensor has failed, car would not start, car finally started after about 20 starting attempts, got check engine light, brought it to dealer, got it fixed under warranty.

Paint chipped on both rear-view mirrors.

Passenger seat air-bag sensor failed. Not covered on warranty.

Fuel pump connection failed; car would not start.

1 ignition coil failed, got stranded on road.

Lots of recalls, exhaust manifold, brake booster, computer reprogram, fuel line repositioning, though work all performed free of charge.

Driver side electric window switch failed.

A load of other minor intermittent electrical problems of all kinds and lots of check engine lights.

Car has basically lots of difficulty getting from one oil change to the other, without some kind of problem appearing.

For the money, I think this car offers a nice comfortable ride with lot of room and decent power. Too bad it's always broken.

Beware! The fuel economy ratings advertised for this car do not match at all real life driving. Just as Hyundai advertised false horse power ratings, I think they did the same with the fuel economy ratings. On highway driving I never get better than 8 liter per 100 Kilometers, and combined highway and city driving usually gives me around 9.5 liters per 100 K, and this being not hard on the gas pedal.
