1990 Honda Accord LX review from North America

"Out of six Hondas I have owned, this has been a lemon and I advise to avoid automatic transmissions!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

"S" light flashed, then speed sensor quit working.

When cold, cannot get the key out of the ignition.

Transmission has given nothing, but problems.

Brakes have worn out too quickly, even when replacing the rotors and pads.

Put two people in the back and it becomes wishy-washy on the road, swaying to and fro like a drunk sailor.

Radio is crap (AM/FM cassette).

General comments?

This is the sixth Honda I have owned, and bar far the biggest headache. Transmission and related parts have been the biggest problems.

The "S" (Sport) light began flashing, and then the speedometer quit; replaced the speed sensor.

When it is cold, the car will go in to Park, but the shift indicator does not recognize it for a long time and you cannot get the key out of the ignition. From what I have seen on-line, this is not unusual for this model.

The transmission slowly died at only 180,000.

Put in a used tranny, but the "S" light is flashing and the torque converter won't lock up.

Found it nearly impossible to keep the alternator belt tightened enough to avoid squealing; when it is tight enough, after a couple weeks it starts squealing again. Terrible adjustment screw set up which is a pain in the nether-regions to access.

This car may have had a previous owner that didn't maintain it, but I have bought a couple Honda's with more miles and they have been the expected Honda reliability. Not this one.
