1984 Peugeot 505 STi review from North America
"An excellent car despite the many repairs needed to get it running"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Brake Booster- Failed while I was driving (exciting)
Brake Master Cylinder- Failed at the same time as the brake booster.
Fuel Lines- leaking, fire hazard.
Rotors- severely worn, bolts were worn to almost nothing.
Alternator
Tie Rod Ends- Worn
Tachometer- Doesn't work RPM stays at 0
Speedometer- gives an estimated speed due to the fact that the needle swings constantly.
Windshield- has a large crack.
Sunroof- leaks in heavy rain
Rear Windows- don't work.
General comments?
I bought this car for $100 after demolishing my Volvo 145E and have since put nearly $2000 into it in the form of repairs and new tires. However, despite the high cost of repairs and the initial unreliability of this car (due to it having not been driven in a long time) I must say that after fixing the problems listed above it's become a joy to drive and is as good as any car I've ever driven.
The main components such as the engine and gearbox have a lot of life left in them and the suspension and handling is truly superb.
