2002 BMW M3 review from North America
"GREAT CAR not cheap, but not overly expensive as well"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
SMG unit decided to stop working after I was driving the care a little hard, i was told one part of the smg unit might have became to hot and throw a code and made the car into a safty mode regardless it was confusing.
The car started to eat up oil very fast 1-2 quarts per 2/3 weeks.after I had the service II done the problem seems to have gone away.
General comments?
The bad little things
The upgraded hk audio system option is a joke for this car,it sounded no better than what was in my old ford mustang to add the system in my lexus gs400 had a 100% better sound in all ranges.
The leather is so so it could be of better quality in terms of durability,it seems to be painted on it seems and this is the second time I notice this in a BMW.
No spare and no hidden room for a spare no jack or lug wrench..if you get a flat and you better hope it's a small nail you can use the factory pump that comes with a liquid to seal the hole.but if you have a blow out you better have AAA as you will need a tow, what I did was buy a used BMW wheel with a tire and when I'm going on long trips I put in in my trunk with a small jack and lug wrench.
The good :
power is great and on hand. sadly the way the owners manual is written you won't get the full power unless you speak to someone or go to a car forum (like I did) and they explain to you how to get the smg to perform at its very best.
Suspension is great as well. for a car this good in the corners the all day ride quality is great.
Seat comfort is good as well and trunk space is very very good.
In the winter the heat comes on with in a few seconds 30-40 and you don't have to wait like in most cars 10 to 15 minutes for the car to warm up inside.
