1997 Buick Skylark custom review from North America
"Great used car choice with the 3.1 engine"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Vehicle has a floorpan leak I am unable to find yet. Fuel filter leaks (recalled by Fram). One power window slow to operate.
General comments?
The car was purchased used, but was well maintained as all service documentation was included. I am six foot four and find front seat comfortable, leg and headroom very good. This car is very quiet and comfortable and returns good fuel economy (about 32 mpg highway and 24 mpg city) with good engine performance/acceleration, smooth transmission operation and adequate braking. This vehicle has its first front brake replacement (rotors and pads) at 109,000 kilometers (about 65,000 miles) but had rear brakes replaced at 70,000 km (45,000 miles). Alternators and battery replacement because of failed alternators is higher than it should be. This car is on its 3rd battery and second alternator. I have found the Skylark to be comfortable for front seat occupants (tight in rear), reliable and economical to operate. It is used every day as a commuter vehicle and is large enough that it feels secure (does not get blown around by wind/traffic, does not hydroplane and provides good stability/traction in snowy weather conditions (traction control seems to work well). This vehicle has a noisy steering column bearing (a common GM problem) that you will either learn to ignore or will have to replace to keep your sanity (mine only makes noise in the winter until the car has been driven for a while... then it stops).Very satisfied with the vehicle over the period of time I have had it.
