1997 Suzuki Sidekick Sport review from North America
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Transmission gave out twice very expensive rebuilds.
The vehicle is on it's second alternator in two years.
Starter motor malfunction tore teeth from flywheel; another very costly repair (transmission had to come out for a third time).
Body rusted significantly: Had to replace both rear quarter panels and rocker panels on both sides.
In a three year period repair costs are over $8,000.
Think I have a lemon, as friends with same vehicle do not seem to have similar problems as mine.
General comments?
I like the styling.
Relatively fuel efficient although under-powered for highway use.
Excellent for driving around the city: small & maneuverable; cheap on fuel.
Not a serious 4X4 for off-roading; but great for on-road use in our harsh Canadian winters.
Fair amount of interior noise due to a lack of insulation.
