1999 Pontiac Grand Prix SE review from North America
"The Little Car That Could"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Okay, so the car isn't THAT little, but is a mid-sized sedan. I got the vehicle used right before my senior year of high school. Upon purchase I had the car inspected by a mechanic who reported no problems upon purchase.
I got the car my senior year of high school, that being said, let's face it... I have beat the hell out of this poor car. It's seen its share of street races, 1500 mile road-trips, jumping curbs... even dodging the police a few times. The summer after I graduated my car became the designated "party car" (use your imagination) not to mention the car's greatest accomplishment, surviving 7k over it's oil change, and suffering no complications. (yeah, I know, I was terrible.)
I didn't start seeing any problems with the car until about a year ago. The pwr steering pump having to be replaced (probably my fault.) The A/C & Heater make a quiet ticking noise on the lower lvs mostly 1,2,&3.. 4&5 are fine. The newest development for the car has been a problem with one of the seals which also is soon to be replaced.
DAMAGES FROM PREV. OWNER
-Driver seat lumbar dial had been yanked out of place on the seat, but was still operational
-Minor damages to carpets IE stains ect.
-Prev. Owner totaled the car and the dealership I purchased the car from rebuilt the front end (found this out recently after running the VIN on a whim)
General comments?
Overall this car has been great and has withstood the test of youth. I don't beat the car anymore, as the trunk now holds a stroller instead of a case of beer. But make no mistake the car will still haul, and has maintained it's "zippyness". The paint has held up nicely and it still wears on it's tires well. It preforms better than what you'd expect given it's history. I plan on giving the car to my niece when she passes her drivers test next year and purchasing a new car (most likely a Pontiac).
I recommend this car to anybody looking for an inexpensive, practical yet still fun and thrilling ride.
I've had fun.
