1993 Ford Escort LX review from North America
"One of Fords finest economical vehicles"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Not much in all the years that I have owned her,
defogger switch -- 1993 under warranty.
Passenger side tie rod twice, 1996 and 2000.
Brakes front at 100,000, 185,000, 245,000, 310,000, 400,000.
Rear brakes at 165,000 300,000, 387,000.
4 timing belts at the scheduled 100,000 k times
2 sets of plugs, 2 sets of spark plug wires.
Steering rack at 310,000.
Original engine, clutch and transmission still going strong, no burning oil.
Replaced head gasket due to antifreeze leak on the outside, at 325,000.
General comments?
This car is indestructible, keeps on going and going, I travel a lot and I do all services at the scheduled times, including oil and filter changes every 5.00 k.
Always starts and has never left me stranded. The air conditioning still works too!.
Gas mileage is awesome, 36 to 40 mpg, depending on the terrain.
