1985 Buick Riviera Standard review from North America
"The sweetest car ever!!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The biggest problem was a freak set of circumstances that led to the engine locking up a week after I got the car, so it had to be replaced.
Rear bumper was shot when I got it, so I had to weld 2 other rusted bumpers together to make one replacement bumper.
Lots of rust; it likes the front fenders, bottom of the doors, a large hole in rear frame, and the 4 rear body mounts have rusted away.
Had to replace all brake and gas lines when I got it.
Have no power steering right now.
Brakes are not very good right now; probably air in the lines.
Radiator leaks.
Rear air shocks leak badly.
Had to rebuild the starter when I got it.
The exhaust system fell off completely from behind the converter.
And the hub caps keep falling off.
General comments?
Well besides the problems I had at first, and the few problems that I've got to iron out yet, she's a kick ass car.
My 1985 Riviera is black with red pin stripes and has maroon leather interior. I love the ride comfort and the interior comfort. I love the look of the Riviera and it really is a pimpmobile tank. I get looks all the time from people (the good looks). The car looks mean, and since there's no exhaust she sounds like she's packing 500hp, which is great. I also love the air horn and I just love the colors.
She runs good and cruises at over 100mph really well.
All the power equipment works pretty good; even the radio works except the displays/time don't show, and one rear speaker is blown
I just love all the luxuries the Riviera provides, and I like the body lines way better than the Toronado and Eldorado counterparts.
Anyhow, she's a great car, and mine overall is great, and she even looks perfect when you stand back 50ft.
And now I hope to spend many miles with her in the years to come!!!
