1985 Ford Escort wagon review from North America
"If you want an escort and you drive crazy get the GT they are hardcore"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
First of all, Rust everywhere.
For a long period of time the car would not go past 15 going up a hill or 35 on a flat road. I will never forget that day where I got stuck in the middle lane on the expressway during rush hour traffic with the hazards on, and cars passing you on both sides doing 70 and above. That was very scary. The problem turned out to be just a bad sensor which was only $25.
When I got the car, the ac was not working and the radio was ripped out.
At times the car would have a bad smell while running. probably the catalytic converter but I never took care of that.
Whole exhaust system had to be replaced.
Intake manifold was bad but never been fixed.
Radiator leaked and the car started overheating.
The transmisson always took a few seconds to get in gear.
General comments?
This was my first car, and its been in the family since the car was brand new. my aunts sister in law bought it because she needed a small wagon at the time, then gave it to my aunt and uncle, and then of course me. My uncle said the time he had it the only problem he had was the started which got fixed.
This was the sportier looking wagon of its year and I thought it looked nice, and came with a nice optional interior which held on good over the years.
The exterior rusted like a real killer however.
When I got my next car, my brother learned to drive this car, ran well for him until a year later and then started overheating. since we had both had diffrent cars by that time that problem was never fixed.
Ever since the car was brand new, it has been not taken care of as it should of, however it ran good and maybe if it had some TLC it would still be running, but the amount of rust the car had, it was not worth it.
