1995 Chrysler Cirrus LXi review from North America

"My Cirrus has been another dependable Chrysler car. *knocks on wood*"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I've had a few problems with the Cirrus, but all of them *knock on wood* have been minor thus far.

I purchased the car used in July 2006, and immediately took the car to my family's trusted mechanic for regular maintenance stuff - tune-up, transmission fluid/filter, cooling system flush, and it needed a timing belt.

Since then, I put four new tires on it at 72,000 miles... just for safe measure. I've also had a consistent noise with my brakes and/or shocks, and I have taken my car to several mechanics, but no one can detect a problem. And my car's stopping fine, so I haven't worried about it. My rear brakes did get replaced at 82,000 miles. (Normal wear and tear.)

One recurring problem dealt with the fan blower. When I first purchased the car, it only worked on the highest setting. Since then, I had that same problem fixed two more times, finally confirming that the resistor was overpowered and consistently breaking the fan motor. That was fixed at 87,900 miles and has been fine since.

There is one odd thing that has happened a handful of times - I will start my car, and have no power to the power windows, locks, or radio, and the Air Bag console light will be lit up. However, this corrects itself when I shut the car off and turn it back on. I have not had this problem looked at.

Occasionally the Cirrus will idle rough as well, but I have not had this problem checked either. (Again, it's an off and on problem that doesn't happen too often.)

Oh, and my tachometer has never worked right. :) But I don't care enough to pay the money to fix it.

General comments?

Overall, I am very pleased with the car. The 2.5 liter V6 is just enough engine for the car. The gas mileage I'm getting is not as fantastic as when I had my sub-compact Omni, however it does fairly decent. I probably get 18-20 in town and slightly better on the highway. (That's hard for me to gauge accurately though, as I do a lot of highway driving.)

I don't care for the gray leather seats, but that's a personal preference. They are in great shape for a 13+ year old car.

The trunk is HUGE. I love that. The rear seat folds down for even more room.

I love how it handles in town and on the highway, and the cruise works beautifully. It's got a security system as well - I didn't realize that until I accidentally set it off myself. Replacement remotes for that system are also too expensive for me to bother with.

There are lots of little extras too - I love that I can unlock all the doors simply by turning my key twice in the driver's door, or once in the passenger door. Mine also has a "CD Ready" radio in it, that could fit a Chrysler-compatible 6 CD changer in it... but I have found Infinity/Chrysler sound systems to be junk, so I'm not worried about it.

Overall, it's been really dependable, and I hope to drive it into the ground... hopefully well over 100,000 miles.
