1989 Nissan 300ZX Z32 TT review from Australia and New Zealand

"Seriously high powered - with a price"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Turbo/s blowing smoke (require replacement or rebuild).

Head gasket blown.

Hicas power steering pump need replacing

driveshaft bearing (normal wear and tear).

General comments?

When I got this car, it already had a blown head gasket and blown turbos (the reason I left some of the 'ratings' blank). Straight up - I will probably never buy another 300zx for this; there are so many reasons, here are all that I know of (in order of importance):

* Seriously crammed engine bay (the MAIN reason I'll never buy another one) - not many mechanics would work on this car (I'm serious, no matter what country you're from, give a local mechanic a call and ask. They're either heavily over priced, or they just choose not to work on the car.

* Modifying isn't easy - you will need almost two of everything. eg: 4 cams, 2 heads, 2 turbos etc.

Those are pretty much the only things I can think of. People complain that overheating is an issue (this is the cause of my blown head gasket), but this is just an outcome from the crammed engine bay.

Out of all the cars that I've owned (Mazda RX7, Nissan Silvia and the 300ZX), I can tell you that the 300ZX by far consumes the most cash.

In saying all that, I can tell you that if you do maintain the car well (timing belt, oil/filter etc), then I don't see why you should have any problems. And if you purchase the twin turbo model - you would be experiencing a roller coaster ride on a daily basis.
