1997 Jaguar Vanden Plas review from North America
"Superb luxury at affordable price"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Replaced rear differential at 110,000 miles. Bought a brand new one off ebay from a shop in UK. Put it in myself. Total cost was about $500.
This is the ONLY repair I have ever made to this car. I do regular oil changes myself every 3,000 miles. Always garaged.
LED clock display is dim, but I have never bothered to fix this.
General comments?
VERY pleased with this car. The Vanden has 5" additional length and is very comfortable for the rear passengers.
A great road car. Smooth engine and seems to purr nicely at 110mph.
Not super quick or fast off the line. But it is an elegant car and a superb vehicle for the money.
My Jag mechanic says he has many customers looking for good condition Vandens and XJ6's with the 4.0L straight six engine. He says they have far less issues than the 8-cylinder motors that Jaguar started putting in their cars after 1997.
