1997 Nissan Altima GXE review from North America
"One of the best all round cars you can buy.."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Normal stuff, plus:
Alternator been replaced once
C.V. joints replaced once
Both front calipers, rotors, pads replaced at once.
Not normal:
My fault – Engine was replaced with a new one at 80k miles...
(Warranty didnt cover it because I didnt properly handle taking the car to the dealer first, $5k out of pocket)
Only problem at the moment is front brake pad has been wearing unevenly on driver side, had to replace sooner then expected.
General comments?
Its a good, reliable car, despite my occasional rough driving style, its aged really well. Its got a good amount of performance for a 4cyl. and firm, stable handling. The auto. trans. is smooth and shifts great at 123k miles.
With gas priced so high, I've been taking it easier on it, though I drive in 95%+ in the city so I only average 19-20mpg.
Its roomy and comfortable with a good amount of back seat trunk space. It has the faux wood trim, so its kind of luxury looking…
Radio is a bit cheap though, both the bass and treble knobs fell off, but thats as bad as the interiors gotten for me.
