1997 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JXi review from North America

"Really nice looking car!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I just purchased this car used from a local independent dealer. Unfortunately, it left me stranded on the highway. I was going at speed when suddenly it felt like it downshifted into second, threw me forward, then coasted again, then downshifted again, then stopped. Repeated attempts would not start the car. I had it towed back to the place where I bought it, and am now awaiting the verdict. Personally, I think it felt like there was water in the gas, but the dealer seems to think it is a problem with either the distributor or the computer. Oh well, I'll hopefully get the verdict soon.

I also have the rear window defogger clip that came unattached; I'm going to get the repair kit from http://www.frostfighter.com/catalog.htm, then coat the entire clip in hot-melt glue to ease the stress on this part.

As for the people whom are getting water in their cars: well, this is how a convertible works. The water drains to the rear deck and enters inside the car behind the 3rd brake light. If you look back there with the top down, you will see a plastic tray. This is a drip tray that catches the water and directs it to the wheel wells, where the water will drip down to a section behind the rear windows and exit out the car through the drain holes.

If you park your car under trees, or have lots of sand, these drain holes will become clogged. The only way to fix this is to make the holes larger and blow them out with compressed air.

I suspect that most of the other electrical problems people are experiencing are due to excessive moisture inside the cabin from the water! I'll repost here after I've had the car for a while!

General comments?

I love the way this thing looks, top down or top up!
