1998 Dodge Neon review from North America
"A hunk of junk!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
About a year ago I had to buy a new radiator, cooling fans, hoses, and thermostat. After replacing all that my car still tends to overheat.
Twice the power steering pump went on me.
The AC and Heater only work on low.
If I go more than 65mph in this car some of the bolts on each wheel will fly right off making it more of a risk of the wheels to come off which is a serious problem waiting to happen.
My car is in the repair shop at this time because this morning it would not start. They said it was caused by 3 problems. First the Fuel pump, then the timing belt, and I need a major tune up. They said I have 2 options. First they said they can just fix the fuel pump and timing belt and do the tune up all together and parts and labor the total will come out to $1300. Second they suggested to put in a new motor for $5000, which they recommend me to do because they said I would not have anymore problems engine wise for a very long time. Is that true? or are they just trying to take money from me? I have to give them a final answer tomorrow. I will probably go with option number 1 because I don't think I will have this car much longer
General comments?
This is my 2nd Dodge. Before this car I had a 93 Shadow which was a good car. But it was getting old with high mileage, so I got this 1998 Dodge Neon which I have had for 4 years and I have never had a day that the car would just go without giving me any kind of trouble.
The Dodge Neon is a death trap!!!
