1998 Ford Taurus review from North America
"I loved it until it got old"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Head gasket went on us around 100,000 miles.
Intake went around 190,000.
Most of the paint is faded.
The rearview mirror keeps falling off.
General comments?
This has been a decent car. It handles OK, and the pickup on it is not bad either.
This was my dads company car, and he bought it from them at 46,000 miles because they were going to sell it to get new company cars, but my dad really liked this car, so that's why he bought it.
Around 165,000 miles it became mine. It's my first car, and now with around 212,000 it's still getting good gas mileage.
I would not recommend the 98's over 100,000 miles, because you start running into problems, and I understand that there is probably not that many out there anymore with less than 50,000 miles. However it's been reliable for us.
