1999 Pontiac Grand Prix SE review from North America
"Not meant to last"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Great car for 5 years and that's it.
First it was water on the passenger side floor. 2 cents worth of silicone fixed that once you find the leak in the rubber around the windshield. Trace the drips of water back..
Then the warranty expired... and...
Then the air conditioner went.
Then the water pump.
Then the master switch for the windows.
Then the intake manifold.
Then the rust in the body. Have you priced rocker panels for a Grand Prix? A trunk? I found it is cheaper to have someone make rocker panels for you.
Then all the window motors..
Then the head gasket.
This car has been serviced faithfully by the dealership I bought it from. Never more than 5,000 between oil changes. They are excellent mechanics, not their fault.
My friend has the exact same vehicle 2 years newer, however she put more miles on her vehicle. Her car has a few more kilometres than mine. I can tell her exactly what is going to happen to her car and it does within six months.
General comments?
I loved this car when I bought it. Sharp looking, handles great, fun to drive, elegant interior. In hindsight it has been a very expensive car to keep running and not at all reliable.
Equipped with many little luxuries that are wonderful in the beginning... until you have to fix them. They are very expensive.
This time I have purchased a new car of a brand known for longevity, with fewer luxuries to fix, with roller windows that I will never have to replace.
