1984 Buick Park Avenue Electra review from North America
"Worthy purchase"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Two problems:
-- As with a previous '82 Buick, the steering
box becomes maladjusted and makes the car much
harder to turn left than turn right (even with a
perfect front-end alignment). It's expensive to
replace the steering gear... all because GM
cheapened the box by removing the fluid deflector
from in front of the spool valve, which upsets the
natural centering position fluid pressures.
-- Stupid engine controls will not allow the car to
properly and safely decelerate when coasting in
gear, all because they're federal computer-mobiles!
It's, frankly, dangerous.
General comments?
Great car; very reliable; only bad thing is the
cheap, crummy seats (especially when compared to big
Ford products of the 80s).
