1998 Pontiac Trans Sport review from North America

"Great car if you keep up on maintenance"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Ground fault to fuel tank // wonky fuel gauge // occasional electrical gremelins with DRL, but fortunately can force headlights on.

Cracked passenger front windshield (apparently this is common on the 98 Transport as the gasket dries out and there is some flex).

AC control switch hit or miss.

General comments?

It seems that this car is HIT or miss. It was my father's car when bought new from dealer (only the dealer did ALL the maintenance), given to a brother for 3 years, now mine.

I love this car, except that mine does not like to be stuck in traffic... normal running temp is 50c when stuck in traffic. Open a window, crank up the heater to setting 4 and within 30 seconds back to 50c temp wise.

Tranny/ starter/alternator/water pump was replaced in 2007.

Paint in near excellent condition; 3 small rust spots, only rockers need to be replaced.

NEVER garaged, even in winter, ALWAYS get car rust proofed every year at specialty shop, not at the dealer. (dealer theory use vin NO. to find out the day it was built... seems cars better Tues/wed /thurs are the best)

Always keep OEM AC delco sparkplugs as the car was set up with these... after tuneup I get 10.5KM (scanguage 2) per Ltr, about 18.5US miles per Gal. Awesome considering it's 10 years old and the EPA estimate was 20MPG.
