1991 Citroen AX GT review from UK and Ireland
"Featherweight flyer with jaw dropping handling"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Corroded alloy wheels needed a coat of sealant between tyre changes. Done for free :-)
One of the seat bolts came out of the floor.. easily welded back in with a strengthening plate.
General comments?
Wow. What a fantastic first car!
Admirable performance that surprised many a passenger and drivers of other cars.
The handling was first rate. Very very good. You could turn in on the brakes, and use the foot brake to modulate the degree of understeer or oversteer. Completely neutral cornering was possible in this manner, and, if required, huge fun with oversteering slides! Also, of course, the adjustability gave me ultimate safety when driving the car, and I never once came even close to having a mishap or accident.
I have never felt so in control of a car in a bend, go-karts included.
Highly rated, and let down only by a very flimsy body and complete lack of safety! Lightweight cars of course had to be like that in 1988. Now of course, we have the wonderful Lotus Elise, which currently carries the flag for such lightweight wondermachines :-)
Long live lightness!
