1996 Chrysler Grand Voyager SE review from North America
"Make sure you have an upgraded warranty and get rid of it before the warranty runs out"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
My 1996 Grand Voyager is parked in my garage right now because I don't/didn't feel confident that it would have been able to run for the eight months I had (at the time I parked it) left on my lease! About 3 months ago I leased another vehicle and the I just paid off the lease on my van. My fear is that the auction place, where I have to return the vehicle, is going to take me to the cleaners on the endless number of malfunctions that this #$%^&!@ van has.
Here is a list of those things I can think of off hand:
1. The windshield wipers will not turn off. I had to pull the fuse out.
2. The locks keep locking and unlocking on their own, over and over...
3. The chiming goes hay-wire with no rhyme or reason. I can't figure out what's triggering it. Sometimes the locking and unlocking join in on the fun. I tried drowning it out with the stereo, didn't work though.
4. Gas gauge stopped working. It just shows it as being full all the time.
5. Speedometer doesn't work anymore. I just had to guess at how fast I was going.
6. Mileage stopped at 53k miles. I am guessing I have about 75k on it now.
7. Lights flash intermittently, sometimes in sync with the locks and chimes.
8. Sometimes the panel just goes dead.
9. Transmission was starting to skip, the primary reason I parked it. I heard many other Voyager owners warn about the dreaded 60k transmission repairs.
10. My husband doesn't think much of this one, but I'll list it anyway. We are on our fourth battery in four years.
General comments?
Most of these problems are electrical in nature. The dealer acts dumbfounded and wants to charge me to look for the problems. Visiting other complaint sites made me realize that many other people were having the same problems.
The only good thing I can say about my Grand Voyager is that it is comfortable and the air conditioning works great. I live in Las Vegas and it gets very hot!
