1987 Peugeot 205 XS review from UK and Ireland
"The car with all mods cost me 750ukp!!! Really fun for little money!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Strange tinny knocking noise from the off side front.
Hand brake jammed.
General comments?
This car is a early 1.4 XS fitted with XY8 engine and twin 35 webbers, the exact car I was looking for.
Once fitted with twin 9164 K@N filters with correct marine style vent adapters for crank breathing, the car is pretty quick, due to it basically being a stripped out tin can (no mod cons like the GTi) and can be scarey in wet. It's been rolling roaded at 93bhp which means the K&N filters have given it an extra 8bhp.
Only other modification is an Esparco strut brace, which helps this car's handling superbly. It handles really well now, with the extra bhp allowing it to be powered out of self inflicted understeer problems which adds to the fun.
It's a quick B road car, but not very fuel efficient on motorways due to its short ratio gear box. At 90mph it's doing 5,000rpm and is deafening inside the car.
