2000 Daewoo Nubira CDX review from UK and Ireland
"Good for the price, but no cigar!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Air con controls no longer illuminated (bulb?)
Safety recall for fuel line and filter.
General comments?
As an A to B car, the Nubira makes a lot of sense. It has lots of equipment, a strong (if noisy) 2.0 engine and, with free servicing for 3 yrs, comes with peace of mind.
Although it performs well (0-60 in 8.8 seconds), the Nubira is not even close to being fun to drive. The suspension is soggy with extreme body roll, and the overlight steering has way too much assistance which dulls feedback. It doesn't even ride very well, with motorway expansion joints and sunken manholes sending crashes into the cabin.
Push it too hard into a corner and it will understeer strongly, with no driver interaction. Those brought up with any half decent European car will immediately notice the difference.
The engine is torquey and responsive but intrusively noisy over 4,000 RPM. It's also thirsty, averaging little better than 25 mpg with town use, and 30 mpg on a run.
Dealer service is superb! Not that the car has needed much attention. The 10k service was carried out in an hour while I waited, and that has been it!
