1991 Toyota MR2 review from North America
"Porsche-level handling at a superb price"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Clutch is slipping, but is supposed to be replaced around 100K miles anyways.
General comments?
The MR2 is a superb car with superior handling to virtually any other vehicle on the road today.
The handling is very balanced and neutral, but snap oversteer is a danger to inexperienced drivers.
The acceleration is acceptable in the NA but those with serious performance in mind need the turbo model.
The interior is comfortable, extremely ergonomic, and absolutely beautiful. Comfort is great even for very long drives.
Externally, the car looks incredible. It has a Ferrari-like appearance, and turns heads wherever it goes.
The car is put together very well, the graceful lines curve across the car, fit and finish is superb.
Cargo capacity is very impressive for a mid-engined car, but it is a 2-seater, so if you like to carry lots of stuff, or people, this is not the car to have.
The quality and worksmanship is fitting of a car 10X its price, far superior to any domestic car, period.
Overall an excellent value for the price. The car looks newer than most of todays concept cars, and its 10 years old.
