1992 Volvo 240 DL review from North America
"Definitely recommend it"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
One of the prongs that engages/disengages the clutch broke so that the clutch wouldn't completely engage and the gears would grind on occasion when you were stopped. We had the clutch replaced (which was hardly worn) and the prongs, etc and everything's been great since. 80,000 miles.
Something strange happened to the car last fall, but it turned out to be minor and repairs were fairly cheap. 90,000 miles.
Brake pads were replaced once, oil changes, etc.
There are a few stone chips on the front of the car from high speed driving (or someone following to closely a cinder truck).
That's pretty much it! :-)
General comments?
This is the only car my dad would let me take to college (one of two 240 Volvos at my mid-west college). It is safe, reliable, and slightly underpowered.
The engine actually is not stressed, despite what some of the other reviews said, which is why they last forever. It's a great car and will hopefully last for another 100,000 easily!
