1986 Chevrolet Celebrity review from North America
"Make sure you get the 6 cylinder engine, it's more dependable!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rear shocks had to be replaced.
Fuel pump quit.
Distributor pickup coil had to be replaced.
Ignition module had to be replaced.
Exhaust manifold cracked.
Heater fan blew a low volume of air.
Power steering pump quit.
Floor rusted out on the driver's side.
EGR valve quit.
General comments?
I bought the car from a couple that took it on a 1600km round trip twice a week. When the car worked properly, it was OK, but the car didn't work properly most of the time.
The engine compartment is crammed, and if you have to do any distributor work, have fun, because the distributor is half way down the side of the engine block between the engine and the firewall. It took 5 hours for a certified mechanic and myself to change the power steering pump. To this day, he won't do any power steering pump swaps on a 4 cylinder Celebrity. A good point, though, is even though the car was pushing the mileage it was, it did NOT burn any oil at all.
