1989 Mercedes-Benz 190 Cosworth review from UK and Ireland
"The best car to date, I love it!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Head gasket blown.
Broken camshaft.
Blowing blue smoke slightly on gear change even though while head work was under-way, a cylinder inspection resulted in good general engine condition.
Head was skimmed at the same time as other work was carried out.
Exhaust blowing slightly, I decided to replace the whole system, later finding out the price much to my disgust.
General comments?
I love these cars, it's my second Cosworth to date and I can't help but throw all my hard earned away on them.
The cars handle really well for their size, but big wheels and lowered suspension are a must for the little country lanes around me.
People who try and alter the sound from their 190 are mad. The car has a lovely deep sound as standard, which is increased in volume with ease just by simply drilling the airbox.
The interior of the car is best when re-trimmed in a softer leather than standard as the original is of a hard material with a chequered centre section, which seems cold and uncomfortable on long journeys.
In general the Cosworth 190e is a beautiful car to look at and drive, it tends to be blessed with more character than more modern Mercedes, which I can only put down to a wider imagination of designers in the 80's.
