1993 Mazda Eunos 500 review from Australia and New Zealand
"A beautiful car aesthetically, smooth, comfortable, which would be sensational with more power"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Large tear in the rear leather seat.
Power steering squeals constantly.
Brakes squeal constantly.
Petrol fumes noticeable when the air conditioner is used on a hot day.
Halogen lamp in a headlight needs replacing.
Significant paint damage, front bar and bonnet.
General comments?
The car is drop dead gorgeous, much more beautiful than Mazda+'s current lineup.
The 2.0 litre six is underpowered, especially on hilly terrain.
Nonetheless the engine is rather thirsty, especially when driven hard.
Automatic transmission sometimes confused about selecting when kickdown is initiated on a steep hill or under load; for example, it selects low for a second with a big surge of revs, then drops into second. This is due to lack of torque from the engine.
Handling is competent, but rather soft.
Seats are reasonably comfortable.
Excellent driving position.
Excellent visibility from the car.
