1998 Peugeot 106 Quiksilver review from UK and Ireland

"Great fun if you can ignore the minor niggles"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The brakes are bad. My car has gone through three sets of brakes in 35k miles!

Full set of brakes (front & rear pads and discs) fixed under warranty in the first year after 12k miles due to warping and corrosion.

Full set brakes renewed after 35k miles (warped & one even disintegrated).

Remote central locking did not work on delivery from new. Car would lock and immediately unlock again (cycle round). Fixed under warranty.

Remote central locking (again). Would not lock at all. Complete system replaced including sensor and keys etc. Fixed under warranty.

Whist driving along in the city the acceleration of the car became stuck. I immediately removed my foot from the accelerator pedal but the car continued at @4000 rpm, picking up speed. I took the car out of gear and brought it to a halt. Switched the engine off.

Started the engine again and it would not idle at the correct speed. It was stuck at 4000RPM instead of 1000RPM. Fixed by AA and a can of WD40!

Stalling for no apparent reason. Just driving along at 50mph and it stalled. Usually would stall with low revs e.g. stopping at roundabout. ECU fault. Supposedly fixed by the dealership.

Car will not start when the engine is "warm". e.g. stop for fuel and the car will refuse to start. Faulty starting sensor.

General comments?

Minor issues:

Stiffness ride.

Electric window switches are by the handbrake instead of on the doors.

Dealers are uninterested.

Plus points:

Great looks.

Great performance.

Is fun to drive.

Sticks to the road quite nicely.

Boot is a reasonable size.

Full beam driving lights are good.
