2001 Peugeot 307 Style review from UK and Ireland
"A very safe, steady performer which, apart from the indicator problem, I would highly recommend"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The indicator switch would flick itself onto the left signal when straightening up from right turns. It has been replaced under warranty. The new switch arrived when the dealer said it would and they fitted it in the time they said they would. The indicator switch on this car is over-sensitive to steering wheel movement and has to be continually reapplied. It is also very quiet so you are not always aware that it has gone off, leading you to be making turns without signalling properly. In certain steering wheel positions the indicator will not stay on at all. The continued reapplying of the indicator also leads to inadvertent switching on/off of the lights, or changing beams. At best these things are a nuisance, at worst they can be dangerous! These problems occurred with both the original and replacement switches. My dealer says all the 307 indicator switches have the same problem. I have been in contact with Peugeot and they say the fault is being investigated and a modified switch should be available 'in the near future' but could not say when.
General comments?
Generally the car is a pleasure to drive particularly over long distances. It is very smooth and quiet as all the controls are light and easy to use (too light in the case of the indicator switch). It is very roomy and pleasant to sit in whether as a driver or passenger.
I use the vehicle for driving tuition so it is important to be comfortable for several hours at a time. My pupils get on well with the car.
The performance is adequate but certainly not startling. Compared with the Rover 25 TD I used previously it feels quite stodgy. No doubt the HDI 110 goes better. I have thought about having it re-chipped but have not gone ahead yet due to warranty and insurance considerations.
The safety features are excellent especially the brakes which are the best I have ever felt.
