1991 Citroen AX GT5 review from UK and Ireland
"Cheap hatch that'll beat most"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The head gasket blew as soon as I bought it, because it's an aluminium engine I had to replace it costing a lot of pennys.
Rust around the filler cap and rear roof-top window sprayer, which also doesn't work.
Plastic clips that hold the front lights in place snapped.
Fog lights don't work.
Dashboard lights don't work.
One the rear windows is jammed shut.
General comments?
This car is a flying machine, 0-60 in 8.7 seconds with my sportex exhaust and K&N filter, which also make the car sound lovely. I've lowered it 60mm at the front and 75mm at the rear, which means that the usually dodgy cornering in the wet is replaced with on-rails type handling.
I'd definitely recommend an AX GT to anyone who is looking for a sporty hatchback while on a budget. Beats your slow Nova SR's, GTE's and GSi's, no problem.
