2000 Pontiac Montana Extended review from North America

"Be prepared for lots of problems after the warranty expires"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Leaking rear door seal (water intrusion during rain and melting snow).

Flickering instrument panel lights. The dealer replaced the on-off switch, but the problem was not corrected.

Intermittent outside-temperature display and direction display. Sometimes the temperature is wildly incorrect and the direction LEDS don't always display the whole letter, or example, E often displays as (.

Leaking coolant traced to a blown head gasket at 75,000km.

High fuel consumption, well over the manufacturers claims.

General comments?

This is the first GM built car I have purchased. I am extremely disappointed.

The sales staff at the dealership were excellent.

Service was entirely different. After more than a year they still didn't know my name. Nor did they seem to care about maintaining accurate service records. No one signed the service book at each service visit, in fact they only stamped the book upon my insistence.

There was huge pressure to purchase extended warranty, which I declined believing that as the first owner of a well built vehicle it wouldn't be necessary provided I followed maintenance schedule religiously.

My experience with all previously owned (foreign build) cars lead me to believe that one could drive a car for 300,000 km (minimum) if routine

preventative maintenance were practiced.

This van has been very expensive to own and operate. Furthermore, a 60,000 km warranty is very short compared to some other manufacturers. I should have seen this as a warning.
