1993 Opel Calibra 16V review from Malta
"Non-expensive performance car with great looks"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing special except for the rear brake light.
General comments?
The Calibra is an inexpensive, eye-catching and reliable coupe. My previous car, a 1.4L Opel Tigra, was similarly good looking, but was very poor on performance. Same cannot be said of the Calibra, especially for the 16V sequential injection (150bhp as opposed to the normal 136bhp 16-valver). Actually I have never really tested the car to the limit on Maltese roads as the ease with which it can accelerate is truly impressive, even more than its horsepower suggests!
In fact it accelerates to 100 km/hr in a mere 8 seconds. I have temporarily removed the catalytic convertor and this has had an incredible effect: 7.4 seconds to a 100 km/hr!
It has proved to be reliable, with acceptable running costs, and all this when you can still carry at least three passengers comfortably: a true source of enjoyment!
