1992 Ford Ranger XLT review from North America
"Reliable and trouble free"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Only after 180,000 miles have I had trouble with the truck running rich and cracking the exhaust manifold as well as not being able to pass emissions test.
Unfortunately, the engine management computer seems to be a bit dodgy now causing hard starting and jerkiness when driving.
General comments?
My truck was a 100% reliable vehicle after the engine computer was replaced at 4000 miles due to persistant spark knock. The 2.3 engine is a bit weak though, especially if one runs the A/C and/or tows a trailer with it. Only major repairs done were driveshaft joints, batteries, tires, brakes and timing belt. The truck still has original clutch as well. Gas mileage was about 340 miles to a tank of gas. The engine is still in good shape with only light smoke at startup due to valve guides being worn. If one can be found in good shape, it's a good truck to get.
