1995 Buick Riviera review from North America

"Know what your buying"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Two days and 40 miles after purchasing the car from a GM dealership, the engine started to miss upon acceleration. The engine needed a tune-up. Technician suspected possible engine damage due to the miss.

Then steering wheel shook. I had to replace the strut seats. The steering wheel still shakes a little after doing so.

The supercharger bearing was grinding. I had to replace the supercharger. Super-chargers are expensive new or used.

The car was in the shop for the entire month of November, which was the same month I bought it.

The seat-belt recall was not even performed.

The dealership tried to stick me with the entire bill around 2000 dollars.

General comments?

The Riviera is supposed to be a luxuary car, yet a compact disc player was an option in 1995 as was the supercharger. A player is standard equipment on an Oldsmobile Aurrora as was the 250hp V8.

The interior and exterior are very plain, much like any other Buick.

The super-charged 3.8L engine moves the car and has excellent passing power. I wouldn't want to drive this car with out the supercharger.

Even with 129,000 miles the car have very little road and wind noise, and is a pleasure to drive.

The car is very bouncey when going over bumps, at moderate intown speeds. The car however floats over bumps at lower speeds.

Fuel economy for the 1995 SC 3.8L is poor in-town and excellent on the highway.

The seats are not as comfortable as my previous car's. Buick uses cheap leather which wears out quickly if not taken care of regularly.

The cup holder tensioner spring broke.

The fuel door release freezes shut in the winter after going through a car-wash.

This car is very solid. It rides like a new car even with high mileage. It is too bad GM couldn't sell more like the Aurora and Riviera.
