1985 Buick Century review from North America
"Reliable, Dependable, Butt Ugly"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Alternator
Carburetor Rebuilt
2 Starters (one was improperly installed, and contributed to premature failure)
Driver's side door sprung, paid $40 for repair, lasted a year, sprung again
Power locks don't work, tape player broke, all the little power seat knob thingies broke off
A/C crapped out loooooong ago
Interior showing its age (worn out corners on seats, Buick used fluorescent green plastic to reinforce them, pretty ugly)
Exterior Showing its age (Rusty, passenger side hood's paint has dulled, bumpers looking awful soggy, some trim falling off)
Timing gear stripped, luckily I was unable to start the engine afterwards, no valve damage was caused
window washer system disconnected somewhere in the firewall.
General comments?
Mileage above is for the rebuilt engine. I have no idea about overall mileage. Despite the many problems I have had with this car, and the absolute inaccessibility of most of the vital systems, I would recommend this car to anybody. It is a tank. I have beat the crap out of this car on dirt roads all over the state, and it looks remarkably good. Not only that, but the ride is very nice. It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.
I've only had it stuck once, but boy was that a DEEP hole. I place no blame on the car for that one.
Overall, a good sound car for anybody. It is ugly and unsophisticated though, so a certain confidence is required in its driver.
